Rediscovering Inner Strength: Building Self-Confidence and Emotional Resilience

Every one of us has experienced moments when life felt overwhelming—when the weight of uncertainty or personal trials made it hard to move forward. Aquarius System Inc., in partnership with Intellicare, invites our mental health speaker for the workplace, Ms. Mica Alanzado, to discuss: “Building Self-Confidence and Emotional Resilience”. We explored the strength that lives inside us and how we can nurture it to thrive in the face of adversity.

The session was designed to empower, uplift, and remind participants that emotional resilience and self-confidence are not traits we are simply born with—they are skills we can build.

Understanding Self-Esteem and Emotional Resilience

In the high-pressure, customer-facing world of BPO work, employees often deal with demanding clients, tight deadlines, and repetitive tasks — all of which can take a toll on their confidence and emotional well-being.

During the session, the participants were given two major concepts: self-esteem and emotional resilience. Ms. Mica discussed the importance of both concepts while determining how each are able to build this for ourselves to create a foundation for our personal, social, and work related strengths.

  • Self-esteem is the belief in our own worth and capabilities. The participants were able to shape determine how they see themselves, how they can approach goals, and how they can recover from setbacks.
  • Emotional resilience, on the other hand, is our ability to adapt and bounce back when life throws challenges our way. The participants learner how emotional resilience is not about being unaffected by hardship, rather, it’s about how they can be flexible, resourceful, and emotionally balanced even in difficult times.

Together, these two qualities form the foundation of a confident, capable, and mentally strong individual.

Key Takeaways

Self-esteem and resilience not only improve performance and customer satisfaction but also support mental health and long-term career growth. Allowing these employees to learn and discover more about themselves.

Here are some of the powerful insights that were explored:

1. Resilience and self-esteem are learnable.

You’re not born with a fixed amount of strength. Each employee learned that both resilience and self-confidence can be developed through conscious effort, self-awareness, and support.

2. Reframe failure as feedback.

Ms. Mica discussed the importance of changing our mindset about failure. It’s not a sign of weakness—it’s a learning experience. The participants realized that the more we can reframe failure as feedback, the more we grow.

3. Wellness supports resilience.

Participants also understood that taking care of the body—through sleep, nutrition, movement, and mindfulness—creates a strong foundation for emotional balance. Journaling, meditation, and gratitude practices were encouraged as daily rituals for inner calm.

4. Relationships with loved ones matter.

One of the most powerful ways to build resilience is through connection. Ms. Mica reminded the listeners that they heal faster and grow stronger when they are surrounded by compassionate, supportive people who remind them that they are not alone.

The Safe Circle Activity

A standout moment from the session was our “Safe Circle”—a small-group sharing activity where each participant spoke about a personal challenge and how they overcame (or are overcoming) it. Peers offered supportive feedback using affirming sentence stems like:

  • “I admire you for showing (value)…”
  • “I could have supported you by…”

This exercise was a reminder that vulnerability is not weakness—it’s courage in action. During this activity, each one was moved and motivated from the positive and powerful words that one shared.

A Final Thought

They closed with a powerful quote by spiritual writer Lalah Delia:

“She remembered who she was, and the game changed.”

It served as a reminder that confidence is not about pretending to be perfect—it’s about embracing your journey, knowing your worth, and choosing to rise even when it’s hard. We continue to advocate mental health speakerships for the workplace in the Philippines, to remind everyone of the importance of mental health.

So ponder on this question:
What is one small step you’re willing to take this week to strengthen your emotional resilience?
